Tiny Dancers

I've added a new activity to my Tiny Beasties collection: ballet dancing!
Like my other beasties, I knit these tiny dancers in Shetland wool before wet-felting them down into miniature versions of themselves, standing at just 6cm tall or so. Alongside their usual fur colours, I've used Jamieson's Spindrift in the delicate heathered pink shade Dog Rose to crochet their little tutus. To complete the look, I've sewn a tiny silvery metal tiara onto each beastie's head.
One of the ongoing design challenges with the Tiny Beasties is finding ways to clearly communicate both what each creature is and what it's doing. Working at such a small scale means every stitch carries a lot of responsibility, with each stitch effectively acting as a large pixel in the finished piece. At the same time, I have to resist the temptation to add too many details, otherwise the time required to make each beastie quickly becomes impractical.
I had a lot of fun designing these ballerina beasties and bringing them to life. I also enjoyed making a silly little video to introduce them.
