My Whitebeam Mitt knitting pattern is in the upcoming issue 8 of The Journal Of Scottish Yarns. Their design reflects the Swedish Whitebeam trees that line the old marketplace in the village where I live. A line of Swedish Whitebeam berry bobbles and a lobed leaf travel down the back of the hand, enclosed by curving cables.
They're knit in a cosy DK - I used 'Scottish Merino', Balmerino DK and Di Gilpin's Bell Wether. Both these yarns are spun from wool from a nature-friendly farm here in Fife, where breeding curlew numbers are being promoted (I have a very soft spot for waders, having spent a previous career studying them on the tops of the Scottish hills).
I knit a whole season of Whitebeam colours- green leaves, silvery bark, creamy flowers and bright berries.
